  3. Do I qualify for grant funding?

How fast do I need to charge my EV car or van?

The answer to this question will depend on your circumstances, and how long your car or van is parked for. As an example, are you charging from home or work? If so a 7.4kw charger will be ideal, as your car or van is usually parked for 6–8-hours.

Fast - rated up to 7.4kW single outlet, post or wall mounted. This EV charger is mainly used to charge at home or your place of work. It takes an average of 6-8 hours to charge depending on your car or van battery capacity.

Rapid - rated at 22kW. Single or twin outlet, post or wall mounted. Suitable for home or business locations. Takes an average of 4-6 hours to charge depending on your car or van battery capacity.

Super Charge - rated from 40kW DC. Single or twin outlet, post or wall mounted. Suitable for small/large commercial buildings, businesses, and car parks. It takes an average of 30-60 minutes to charge depending on your car or van battery capacity.

So, the faster the EV charger will charge your car, the more the EV charger will cost. Listed below is an average example of a price of an EV charger.

  • 7.4kw charger - £400-£600+vat
  • 22kw charger - £1,300-£1,500+vat
